6 Best Things To Do In Costa Calma, Fuerteventura (2025)
Wondering if there’s much to do in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura? Then keep reading whilst we share some ideas of what you can get up to whilst you visit & some handy information!
The town of Costa Calma is one of our favourite places in Fuerteventura. We’ve stayed here pretty much every time we’ve visited the island (except one year when we stayed in Corralejo for a change) & we just love it so much!
It’s best known for it’s beautiful golden beaches, relaxing atmosphere & excellent climate. It’s a much quieter resort than the likes of Caleta de Fuste or Corralejo, which is why we personally enjoy it!
In this post we’ll share with you things to do in Costa Calma, whether you’re staying for the week or even just visiting for the day from another part of Fuerteventura. We’ll also recommend where to stay, how to get there & other information you might find helpful!
The Best Things To Do In Costa Calma, Fuerteventura
1) Spend The Day At Costa Calma Beach
If you are a beach lover or avid sunbather, then head to Costa Calma Beach!
You can rent two sun loungers there for around 15 euro which we think is pretty reasonable! The sand is soft so you could even just bring your towel & throw it down anywhere!
If you’re feeling peckish at lunchtime there are a few beach bars to choose from. Beach Bar Horizonte, Beach Bar Aureola & Restaurante Costa Beach.
If you don’t mind walking a few minutes up the hill from the beach, Rapa Nui SurfBar is also a nice spot for a sandwich & coffee!
2) Take A Photo At The Costa Calma Sign
Every town in Fuerteventura has their own sign, either as you drive in or you might discover it as you’re walking round. Costa Calma is no different, with their sign sitting against the beautiful backdrop of the resort & it’s sandy beaches.
We definitely recommend going in search of it as it’s a pretty cool spot to get a snap for Instagram or to pop in your holiday photo album! We think going here at sunset would make for an even more spectacular photo!
You’ll find the sign next to Playa Agustin Millares, which is the beach beside SBH Costa Calma Beach Resort. If you have a car just head to this car park & it’ll be right there at the end.

3) Enjoy The Views At Mirador Atlantico
We are always on the lookout for good views, & luckily Costa Calma has plenty!
One such viewpoint is Mirador Atlantico, located on the very edge of the town, right next to the R2 Rio Calma Hotel & Spa. If you don’t mind walking, it will take about 30-40 mins to walk from the centre of town, or maybe even less depending on where you’re staying.
We took the car & parked here, then walked along the coastal path. We eventually turned down these steps to the right, where you’ll see the observation deck right in front of you!
Unfortunately we had a bit of a cloudy day for it, but it was a lovely walk & it’s a nice spot to just enjoy looking out to the ocean & listening to the waves! We also think it would be a great place to watch the sunrise!

4) Visit Playa Esmeralda
On the westside of Costa Calma, you’ll find the dreamy beach of Playa Esmeralda. We normally stay in the H10 hotel right beside here, so it’s one of the beaches we frequent the most.
If you’re an early bird, we definitely recommend heading here to watch the sun come up & maybe even do a sunrise swim! It’s so peaceful, especially in the winter months we often have the whole beach to ourselves at that time!
It’s a slightly rocky road to get there but totally manageable & there’s a car park right above!
The waters are crystal clear & the beach has really soft white sand. You can hire a sunbed & parasol or just bring your own towel & set up shop wherever you like!
There’s also Playa Esmeralda Norte, another section of this beach closer to Costa Calma. At this stretch of the beach you’ll find Palmita Pepe & Antonia’s Beach Bar where you can grab a drink or some lunch. There’s also toilets & a shower located here.
5) Learn To Windsurf & Kitesurf
Costa Calma is a very popular spot with windsurfing & kitesurfing enthusiasts, due to its ideal conditions, shallow waters & steady winds.
Sotavento Beach, located adjacent to Costa Calma, is one of the best spots to try these activities out! René Egli Center, is a popular school that offers lessons for people of all levels. You’ll find it at the very top of Sotavento Beach beside the Melia Hotel & the tidal lagoon.
Further down at Risco Del Paso Beach, you’ll come across ION Club Windsurfing & Kitesurfing school which is another great place to learn. They have a shuttle bus that runs from the school to Costa Calma which is super helpful for anyone without a car. They also do surfing & paddleboarding!
At the other side of Costa Calma there’s another very popular school called Matas Bay, where you can learn to kitesurf, windsurf & wingfoil. They also have a cool chill-out spot that you can relax at or sunbathe when you’ve finished!
6) Take A Walk Through Costa Calma Town
Costa Calma is lovely for a leisurely stroll & we think it’s pretty walkable no matter where you’re staying. The streets are very pretty & most of them are lined with palm trees – which makes it a very instagram-mable location!
Check out El Palmeral Shopping Center & Bahia Calma Shopping Center – which both have a variety of shops, cafes & restaurants. Although don’t expect them to be like a Westfield 🤣!
There’s a nice promenade walk you can do from H10 Tindaya to H10 Playa Esmeralda & back too – which starts around here. You’ll walk past a few small beaches & there are some fabulous views. Don’t miss out on seeing the squirrels at these steps either!
How To Get To Costa Calma From Fuerteventura Airport
Costa Calma is located in southern Fuerteventura, around 65km from the airport. It will take about 1hr to get there if you’re driving. It’s a fairly easy drive, as once you leave the airport you stay on the same main road the whole way, until you reach Costa Calma town.
The easiest & quickest way to get to Costa Calma is definitely by car. We always hire a car in advance of our trip, which we pick up right at the airport. The process has always been pretty simple & it gives us the freedom to explore the island at our leisure! Other ways to get to Costa Calma From Fuerteventura Airport:
BY TRANSFER: If we didn’t have our own car, we would probably just pre-book a transfer via Holiday Taxis. They have various options from shuttle buses to private vehicles depending on what your prefer & how many are in your party!
BY LOCAL TAXI: You can of course get a taxi from the airport, however it may set you back over 100 euro (or even more). Then you have to think about getting a taxi back to the airport as well. It would be a lot cheaper for you to hire a car!
BY LOCAL BUS: There is a bus service that runs via the airport, which is probably the cheapest option! However, you may have to wait for long periods & service may be irregular at weekends or on public holidays. For more info & timetables check out the Tiadhe website.

INNSiDE BY MELIA FUERTEVENTURA
This hotel is at the top of our bucket list & I think we’ll most likely stay here on our next trip.
It’s located right next to Sotavento Beach & is Adult’s Only. If you want a really peaceful & quiet holiday this is the place to go.
You have the option to do bed & breakfast OR half-board.
We think the rooms have such a cool beachy vibe & the interior of the hotel is so fresh & modern! We can’t wait to stay here in the future!
If you prefer self-catering accommodation, we recommend the newly refurbished R2 Higos Beach!
We walked past it on our last stay in December, & it’s in a really good location in the centre of town near the beaches & shops.
The apartments themselves look SPOTLESS plus some of them have private pools! We love the look of the bar & dining area too – all VERY instagrammable!

Is Costa Calma quiet?
Yes, Costa Calma is a quiet, more laid-back beach resort, unlike the busier towns of Caleta de Fuste or Corralejo. If you are looking for a more relaxed vibe, away from the bustling crowds, Costa Calma is a fantastic spot!
Does Costa Calma have nightlife?
Whilst it’s not a lively 18-30’s resort, Costa Calma still has a good few bars & restaurants you can go to! A few of the best bars are Los Piratas, Mikes Roadhouse, Musikbar Cheers & Rapa Nui Surf Bar.
How far is Costa Calma from the airport?
Costa Calma is located in the south of the island, 65km away from Fuerteventura Airport. The journey from the airport will take around 1 hour.

Hi Maria. Thank you so much for your comment. Although we haven’t been to Lobos Island, I have a friend that went & she said it was a great experience and worth seeing. You can get the ferry from the port in Corralejo. I think it only takes about 15 minutes to get there. As far as I know you can book tickets online in advance or I am certain there are some ticket booths at the pier where the ferry leaves from!
