My Review of Hotel Basilica Palma: The Best Boutique Stay

On a recent trip to Palma de Mallorca in April 2025, we booked to stay at the fabulous Hotel Basilica.

We can now tell you that it looks exactly like the pictures online (possibly even better!) & it was the BEST hotel we’ve ever stayed in.

From the wonderful staff to the boutique style interior & beautifully decorated rooms – it really exceeded our expectations.

In this post, I’ll share with you our honest review & experience of Hotel Basilica in Palma, along with plenty of pictures so that you can see for yourself what it’s really like.

HOTEL BASILICA REVIEW

Location

Hotel Basilica is perfectly located right in the centre of the old town.

It’s within walking distance to most of the main sights in Palma, as well as cafes, shops & restaurants.

You’ll find it tucked down a narrow one way street, right beside ‘Basílica de Sant Francesc‘ & ‘Plaça de Quadrado.’

There’s a great coffee shop next to it called Plumo, which we highly recommend visiting – especially for an early morning almond croissant!

Personally we thought the location of the hotel was brilliant and loved that we could walk everywhere without having to get taxis.

We were actually going to hire a car for this trip, but chose not to as we read you needed a permit to drive/park in parts of Palma’s inner city so we decided against it.

You’d also have to pay for underground parking somewhere as there isn’t any at the hotel so personally don’t recommend it.

On this trip we mainly wanted to explore Palma itself & in the end we were really glad we chose to go car-free!

Checking-In

We really loved the check-in process at Hotel Basilica – which sounds strange but hear us out!

When we arrived one of the staff members was entering the hotel so she brought us in – otherwise there’s a little buzzer on the door & someone will come to greet you.

Firstly, the staff were so friendly & welcoming. For our whole stay they couldn’t do enough for you, and acknowledged us at EVERY occasion.

On arrival, we gave our passports at the front desk & we were given a short form to fill out.

Instead of filling everything out at the desk, we were invited to take a seat to do the forms at our own pace, & we were also offered a complimentary glass of cava!

In the meantime our suitcases were taken up to our room by a staff member & on receiving the room key they said we could take our time & just head up when we were ready.

We thought this was a really nice welcome, there was no pressure to hurry to the room & it felt really relaxing after a long morning of travelling.

Our Room

We booked a ‘Colonial Double Room’ which was the most affordable option & honestly it was one of the NICEST hotel rooms we’ve ever stayed in.

It was spacious, super clean & had everything we needed – not to mention the balcony which I’ll get to in a moment!

Room Facilities

In our room we had a huge double bed, with dressing gowns & slippers laid out for our arrival.

The sheets were clean, fresh & I believe there was a pillow menu if you needed it.

Whatever was in your mini-bar was complimentary – we had a few juices, beers & waters! This was a lovely touch. (If you wanted it topped up you would obviously pay more!)

Having a Nespresso machine was absolutely delightful as coffee is our favourite thing in the morning. There were pods, milk & sugar provided.

TIP: If you prefer tea, just go to reception and they’ll give you a kettle & some tea bags! I did this for my mum and it was absolutely no problem to them at all. So don’t be afraid to ask!

Other facilities in our room included:

Wide-Screen TV: we actually watched this most evenings!
Wi-fi: which was free everywhere in the hotel
USB/Plug sockets: plenty of these to charge our tablets & phones (beside the bed too)
Ceiling fan: we loved having the option of using this instead of the aircon
Air-Conditioning: we can imagine this would be really useful in the heat of the summer!

As you can see from the pictures there’s a full-length mirror on the wall which I really appreciate lol & a large wardrobe (with the complimentary safe inside.)

Balcony

Now onto the good bit – OUR BALCONY!

Firstly I want to note that I requested a room with a large window & the juliet balcony when booking, as some rooms don’t have them.

As this is an old building there are some ATTIC ROOMS with small windows – and I really didn’t want one of those as I saw them on Tripadvisor & they were a bit darker.

So my advice is when you’re booking put a note or send them an email saying that you would love to have a room with a juliet balcony/large window. Of course it can’t be guaranteed but it’s always better to ask!

We overlooked the street & the basilica across the way, which was absolutely gorgeous. It could be busy at some parts of the day but otherwise it was quiet (and I believe the rooms are soundproofed anyway!)

So in addition to requesting a balcony – if you want a room overlooking the church let them know OR there are rooms at the back of the hotel which seem to overlook the surrounding rooftops & buildings!

Our room was right at the top of the stairs so we were at the end & then there are a few apartments beside the hotel to our left but we never seen anyone out on their balconies – so it was really nice!

My parents were also with us, their room was down the hall right at the other end – ROOM 305! When you looked out on their balcony there were no rooms to the right hand side of them at all.

Bathroom

The bathroom was lovely in our room, with a huge walk-in shower, sink & vanity area, and of course a toilet.

They have Molton Brown shampoos, conditioners, shower gel & hand cream/wash which was really luxurious!

Clean bath towels & hand towels were provided.

Here’s a picture of our bathroom (the lighter one) & my parents bathroom which was slightly different with gorgeous black tiles!

I’d say their bathroom was slightly bigger as well in Room 305 maybe just due to the shape of the room! But both were equally nice.

The Rooftop Pool

One thing that attracted us to this hotel & I’m sure it’s attracting you too – is the rooftop area!

Now we didn’t really utilize this space as we were out exploring quite alot, but even in April people were sunbathing & enjoying the pool!

To enter this area you need your key card & I’d say there are about 14 sunbeds in total, so do be aware it may get quite busy in the summer months.

I also want to mention that the pool is fairly small (it may look a bit bigger in some pictures online), so don’t expect to be doing lengths in it lol! But realistically it’s perfect for the size of the rooftop & taking a dip!

There’s a small fridge with a selection of drinks which you can help yourself from & then I believe you write down your room number on the notepad beside so they can charge it to your room.

The views from up here are absolutely STUNNING! You can see all across the city, over to the cathedral & the ocean.

It was a really nice place to watch the sunset!

The Bar & Outdoor Area

Downstairs beside the lobby you’ll find a small bar & an outdoor seating area.

We went here a couple of times & we enjoyed sitting outside.

They have a great selection of drinks & I think you can order bar snacks as well from here! You can also get tea or coffee.

The Restaurant

We booked room only so we didn’t get to try the breakfast or dinner menu at Hotel Basilica, but the restaurant looked really cute!

From what I could tell there was plenty of selection for breakfast – breads, pastries, deli meats, eggs & the like.

It was 20 euro to have breakfast but we personally just skipped it & went out for brunch instead or went to the café beside the hotel.

It will just depend on personal preference what you want to do 🙂

Final Thoughts: Hotel Basilica, Palma

We were really impressed by this hotel & we would go back again in a heartbeat.

The interior was beautiful, the staff couldn’t do enough for you & the rooms were perfect. We couldn’t really fault it in anyway.
